The first year FREC Committee (FC) members help organize Orientation Week. They are overseen by the Orientation Chair and Chief FREC. Each FC member helps to hire FRECs and has a specific role within the team. There are 9 different roles for first year FC:

Event Coordinators (includes: 'Wednesday', Thundermugz, Highland Games):

Event coordinators are involved in the hands on planning of the various events of Orientation Week. They take full responsibility for all the ins and outs of their respective events.

The 'Wednesday' Coordinator is responsible for the first day of O-Week events like the Wednesday Welcome and What is Your Faculty? events. The first day of O-Week is traditionally called “Wednesday”.

The Thundermugz coordinator plans and executes the second day of O-Week events, namely Thundermugz. This individual will collaborate with the Nursing Orientation Committee to include nursing orientation students in this day of events.

The Highland Games Coordinator plans and executes the third day of O-Week with events like Highland Games and FRECfast.

These individuals are extremely excited about all things Orientation Week. An event coordinator must also be organized and detail oriented. Additionally, they must be willing to talk to all external and internal stakeholders which play a role in their day’s events.

Pole Day Coordinator:

The Pole Day coordinator is responsible for planning the grand finale of Orientation Week. They will work closely with the Event Coordinators to create a final event that pulls the whole week together. This individual should be creative, motivated, and excited about all things Orientation Week! The Pole Day coordinator must also be detail oriented, organized, and ready to run an event that reflects the traditions of the Grease Pole. Additionally, they must be willing to talk to all internal and external stakeholders which play a role in the event.

Treasurer:
The treasurer handles the financial operations of Orientation Week, including budgeting, paying invoices, and requisitioning cheques. They work closely with Vice President of Operations and the Director of Finance of EngSoc to ensure Orientation Week is sustainable. They also work with each member of FC to keep Orientation Week as low cost as possible for incoming first years. Treasurer is someone who is organized and has good time management skills.

Academics:
The main goal of the Academics position is to help make incoming students feel ready for their year and supported. This is done through the organization of events that prepare students for their courses and promote the clubs, resources, and opportunities of involvement around campus. The main events include Eng Day, Friday Night Live, and Prof Talks. Academics must be well organized and have good interpersonal skills.

Sponsorship:
Sponsorship reaches out to various companies and businesses to secure sponsors for Orientation Week. Sponsorship should be someone who is dedicated and passionate about Orientation Week. Spons must also have good communication and organizational skills. Sponsorship will also be in charge of community outreach events.

Action, Tech, Plant Manager:
The ATPM is responsible for managing and assisting FRECs. They play a large role in the training and hiring process (actions, techs, and plants specifically) as well as create detailed documentation to lead FRECs through Orientation Week events.

Primer Editor:
The role of Primer Editor is to create the Primer, which is distributed to First Year students the summer before arriving at Queen's. This involves border design, writing and editing, as well as printing and distributing the Primer. No prior skills are required; Primer is trained in Adobe InDesign and other software utilized in the role.

All members of first year FC should be enthusiastic, detail-oriented individuals with good time management skills and A LOT of passion for Orientation Week!
