The Queen's Genetically Engineered Machine Team (QGEM) is a multidisciplinary, student-lead research/design team that works throughout the summer to develop a synthetic biology project to solve a local problem with a global prevalence. This year, the team will be collaborating with Queens research group 'Open Plastic' to develop a novel project involving plastic degrading enzymes (PETases).

Each year, the team competes in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition held in Paris France where over 350 teams from all over the world come together to compete for medals and awards.

The Outreach Lead

Outreach lead is responsible for organizing the volunteers, weekly updates with the team (newsletters) and outreach events, such as interviews and presentations. Hence, the outreach position requires great interpersonal and organizational skills. It is recommended to be comfortable with public speaking and event planning. Since the outreach lead is responsible for weekly newsletters, having experience with design and being efficient with PowerPoint is also highly recommended.
