Apply to be the First Year Project Coordinator Manager for the DoFY team!
The First Year Project Coordinator program provides first years with the unique opportunity to work closely with a mentor. This mentor could be an executive, director or even services manager within the Engineering Society. The mentor provides a project for the first year to work on, this project should help the first year develop important soft skills with the potential of benefiting the mentor's portfolio as well.
The First Year Project Coordinator Manager works with the Director of First Year in overseeing the FYPCO program. They will act as the first point of contact for both FYPCOs and Mentors.
Their responsibilities include:
- Distributing applications to mentors (who must apply to have a FYPCO)
- Marketing the program to first-year students
- Hiring FYPCOs and assisting in the pairing of FYPCOs with an upper-year mentor
- Helping to manage the relations between FYPCOs and mentors
- Organizing, meetings, and workshops to help further expand the FYPCO skillset
- Acting as a general resource for FYPCOs
A candidate must:
- Be passionate about first years and improving the first-year experience
Other helpful qualities include:
- Being approachable
-A solid understanding of the program, its benefits, and what makes a good mentor
- The confidence to deal with any conflicts that may potentially arise during the year
- Willing to work with and support other members of the First Year team
The time commitment for this role fluctuates from week to week, depending on the upcoming events.
Some commitments to expect include:
- 1 weekly meeting (sometimes as a whole team, other times just with the Director of First Year)
- Additional time each week spent working on your individual tasks outlined above
- At the beginning of the year: the hiring of FYPCOs
