Introduction:

NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) is a non-profit organization with over 16,000 members in 500 active chapters all over the world. NSBE's mission is to "increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community." As a fairly new chapter at Queen's we plan on achieving this goal by offering opportunities for mentorship, academic support, and professional development. We're looking to recruit a team of motivated and passionate students for our exec team to help us accomplish this goal.

Role Overview:

Finance Lead:

Description: As the finance lead you will be responsible for managing the chapter’s finances. From processing reimbursement requests to managing the chapter’s budget, your role will be crucial in ensuring every dollar is well spent.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Distribute and receive all re-imbursement requests for events, supplies, and equipment etc.
  • Aid in applying for club sponsorships, bursaries, and grants.
  • Aid in determining and managing the club’s budget in collaboration with the exec team.

Mentorship Lead

Description: As the Mentorship Lead you’ll spearhead the development and leadership of the NSBE mentorship program. Your role includes recruiting student mentors and pairing them with mentees. Mentorship is at the heart of NSBE, and this is an opportunity to leave an invaluable impact on the student community.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Initiate or take over the previous mentorship program and develop a guiding structure for mentors and mentees.
  • Hire volunteer student members.
  • Collaborate with marketing lead to promote the program and find mentees.
  • Manage the mentorship program with the support of NSBE co-presidents.
  • Coordinate mentorship events and opportunities for NSBE club members in collaboration with BYIS (Black Youth in Stem).

Marketing Lead

Description: As the Marketing Lead take charge of NSBE’s digital presence and amplify our voice across the engineering community. We’re seeking someone with the passion and vision to establish a powerful and engaging presence at Queen’s and beyond.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create social media posts for club events, news, and accomplishments.
  • Collaborate with exec team to market club initiatives, and hiring.

Events Coordinator

Description: As the Events Coordinator you’ll be the driving force behind planning and executing a variety of events. From conferences to hackathons, collaboration and innovation are crucial to succeeding in this role. If you’re up for the challenge, this is the role for you.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the executive to plan and coordinate club events.

IT (Information Technology) Lead

Description: As the IT lead you will be responsible for technical operations. This includes managing and enhancing the chapter’s website, and other IT related tasks. If you’re passionate about web design and technology this is the position for you.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Update the website, and complete other IT related tasks.

    Must Have Qualities

    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
    • Effective written, and oral communication skills.
    • Effective time-management skills.

    Nice to Have Qualities

    • Marketing, and photography experience.
    • Finance and budgeting experience
    • Tutoring and mentorship experience.

    Additional Information:

    The expected time commitment of the NSBE exec team varies by role but is expected to be 1-3 hours a week. This includes bi-weekly meetings, events, and club communications.
