About QGEM:

The Queen’s Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) Team is the Queen’s University chapter of International Genetic Engineered Machine (iGEM). QGEM is an undergraduate research and design team that uses innovations in the fast-evolving field of synthetic biology to tackle current real-world problems related to medicine, industry, the environment, sustainability, and more. We are also part of the collective Ontario Genetic Engineered Machine (oGEM), with whom we collaborate with to share ideas, lab protocols, and funding plans.

As an Outreach General Member, you will participate in the “integration of human practices” - communicating with stakeholders to ensure QGEM’s 2025 project’s impact is as large as possible on the people it will impact. This includes but is not limited to organizing events, hosting the podcast, communicating with sponsors, and running QGEM’s social media accounts. These jobs are integral to the success of the QGEM team, and give members the opportunity to be part of a large scale research project and propel their career in science and outreach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with stakeholders
  • Compile thoughts, quotes, and interviews that help guide the direction of the project
  • Collaborate within and outside of your subteam
  • Creatively compile information for the dry lab team to include on the team website
  • Host events
  • Communicate with sponsors

Qualifications

  • Background in STEM is preferred
  • Organizational and detail oriented
  • Excellent people skills
  • Creative
  • Available during the summer (in person is preferred but hybrid is possible)
