Join QRET as a Subteam Lead and Lead Us to New Heights!
The Queen’s Rocket Engineering Team (QRET) is a passionate group of undergraduate students dedicated to designing, building, testing, and launching rockets up to 10,000ft for international competitions. Beyond launching rockets, we strive to provide every member with opportunities to learn, develop industry-transferable skills, and collaborate on an incredible cross-disciplinary project.
We are hiring multiple technical leads to join our leadership team for the upcoming year. These roles are open to students from all faculties and cover technical projects from several fields. Whether your expertise lies in manufacturing, computer science, or research, your leadership can help propel QRET to greater success.

Role Descriptions:
These roles reflect some changes to the team structure to allow for better integration of hybrid systems within the rocket. If you have an idea for a project or role that you think would benefit the team and is not listed, feel free to let us know!
Aerostructures Lead (1-2 positions)
Lead the design, construction, and testing of QRET’s 2026 Rocket. Must have experience with composite manufacturing and postprocessing. Experience with rocketry simulation software such as OpenRocket and FinSim is an asset.
Avionics Lead (1-2 positions)
Lead the design and development of hardware and firmware for QRET’s on-board electronics, such as our GPS and altimeter. Additional projects are likely to include live camera streaming, hybrid rocket electronics, and a ground station.
Internal Structures and Recovery Lead (1-2 positions)
Lead the design and manufacture of QRET’s recovery and internal structures through CAD to 3D printing and communications with on campus machine shops.
Payload Lead (1-2 positions)
Lead the design and manufacture of QRET’s payload, our in-rocket science experiment. The team is open to any ideas for this project and welcomes creativity in concept choices for a 1- or 2-year project timeline. A payload idea is not required to apply but if you have ideas, we’d be happy to hear them! No rocketry or QRET experience required, open to all fields of study.
Rocket School Lead (1 position)
Lead QRET’s intro to rocketry sub team working with general members to launch their own kit and scratch-built model rockets.
Oxidizer Systems Lead (1 position)
Lead development and integration of oxidizer systems into a hybrid rocket airframe. Oversee development of custom valves and fill to fire systems.
Motor Lead (1 position)
Oversee development and build of combustion systems including fuel grain, injector, ignitor, and nozzle, as well as integrating them into a flight configuration.
GSE Lead (1 position)
Oversee development and build for ground support equipment required for hybrid integration. This may include a launch tower, test sensors, miscellaneous support hardware and systems required for transport.
DAQ Lead (1 position)
Oversee propulsion electronic systems, work closely with the avionics sub team to integrate the required hybrid engine control systems into the rocket.
Research Project Lead (1 or more positions)
Organize the creation and development of a new research-focused project with the goal of creating a conference paper or poster. This is very open-ended and has the potential to connect with a variety of different fields. No rocketry or QRET experience required, open to all fields of study. Full project idea not required to apply, but we'd appreciate an idea of what field you'd be interested in.
