About QGEM:

The Queen’s Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) Team is the Queen’s University chapter of International Genetic Engineered Machine (iGEM). QGEM is an undergraduate research and design team that uses innovations in the fast-evolving field of synthetic biology to tackle current real-world problems related to medicine, industry, the environment, sustainability, and more. We are also part of the collective Ontario Genetic Engineered Machine (oGEM), with whom we collaborate with to share ideas, lab protocols, and funding plans.

As the Wet Lab General Member, you will participate in all wet lab experiments, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and ensure smooth laboratory operations. It is your responsibility throughout the summer to collaborate with team members, learn biological, cellular, and molecular techniques that will drive the success of QGEM's 2025 synthetic biology project. Wet Lab general members get invaluable research and technical experience that introduces them to research and sets up the skills necessary to propagate a career in science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform wet lab experiments delegated by the team lead
  • Collaborate with the wet team to maintain the timeline
  • Compile experimental data and keep it organized for dry lab work

Qualifications

  • Background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Organizational and detail oriented
  • Problem-solving and collaborative skills
  • Must be situated in Kingston for the summer.
