The mission of the Queen’s Aero Design Team is to provide unique opportunities to students at Queen’s University to learn, explore, & experience aircraft design and construction, in a team environment. The Queen’s Aero Design Team aims to develop innovative designs focused around heavy lifting and drone technology. We seek to improve members communication, leadership, and project management skills, as well as develop engineering and design skills.
The electrical lead is responsible for all things electrically related to the drones we build. The position would require you to oversee general members, and work alongside them as a leader to create solutions to all of our electrical design goals. For example, on our drones, the electrical lead would work on implementing and optimizing a battery to sustain the drone in flight for the required time period to ensure it has enough energy to power all of the flight systems, and to safely land. Further, the executive would work on designing and choosing the best flight systems such as ESC's, microcontrollers, motor drivers, flight controllers and more, as well as write a bit of code here and there. The main purpose of the electrical executive is to serve as a project leader to all team members, and to ensure that all flight systems which require power are safe and efficient for usage.
The electrical executive should possess all of the following skills:
Although it would be nice for the executive to posses some hard skills such as Ardupilot, the position does not require you to have any prior knowledge in these area. All we ask is that you be willing to learn these skills, and dedicate some time to learn them:
