Outreach Lead – Queen’s Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) Team

About QGEM:

The Queen’s Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) Team is the Queen’s University chapter of International Genetic Engineered Machine (iGEM). QGEM is an undergraduate research and design team that uses innovations in the fast-evolving field of synthetic biology to tackle current real-world problems related to medicine, industry, the environment, sustainability, and more. We are also part of the collective Ontario Genetic Engineered Machine (oGEM), with whom we collaborate with to share ideas, lab protocols, and funding plans.

As the outreach lead, you will oversee the “integration of human practices”—the process by which stakeholder interactions can help influence and improve the impact of our project in the real world and assist in funding efforts and management of budgets. You will attend the iGEM conference situated in Paris.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives to engage the public and collect feedback for the project.
  • Facilitate collaborations with other iGEM teams and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the Director with funding efforts and manage related budgets.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • A creative mindset with a passion for public engagement.
  • Must be situated in Kingston for the summer
  • A flexible schedule with an eagerness to put forth quality work
