The Queen’s Rocket Engineering Team (QRET) is a passionate group of undergraduate students dedicated to designing, building, testing, and launching rockets up to 10,000ft for international competitions. Beyond launching rockets, we strive to provide every member with opportunities to learn, develop industry-transferable skills, and collaborate on an incredible cross-disciplinary project.

We are hiring multiple business team leads to join our leadership team for the upcoming year. These roles are open to students from all faculties and cover technical projects from several fields. Whether your expertise lies in manufacturing, entrepreneurship, finance, computer science or research, your leadership can help propel QRET to greater success.

What You’ll Do as an Operations Lead:

  • Develop new strategies for business development or team operations
  • Contribute to team operations reports and funding proposals
  • Manage project budgets and finances
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key stakeholders

Role Descriptions:

These roles reflect some changes to the team structure to allow for better integration of hybrid systems within the rocket. A goal for this year is the further development of the team’s logistics portfolio, so some of these roles may look different from previous years or may not yet be fully defined.

We’d also like to have more inter-role communications, particularly between finances and sponsorships, whether that means more frequent check-ins or even subteam-style meetings. If you have an idea for a project or role that you think would benefit the team and is not listed, feel free to let us know! We look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Business Managers (3-4 positions)

Business Managers will learn about the financial and logistical operations of the team while working with sub-teams to place orders and source parts. This role is intended to work closely with subteam leads and the sponsorship team to help source the cheapest options and oversee purchase requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with sub-team leads to source materials
  • Placing and coordinating orders through the mech department
  • Updating tracking sheets and budgets
  • Contribute to team operations reports
  • Working with the executive team to create budgets for the upcoming year
  • Approving and overseeing budgets
  • Attend team meetings or check-ins

Sponsorship (2 positions – Summer Start)

Sponsorship leads will learn about the finances and funding of the team while growing QRETs network and acquiring new donations and sponsors. Work with the executive and team leads in identifying key industries and potential sponsors to contact, as well as to increase the team’s branding and public image towards potential donors. This will be a key focus area for the team in preparing for hybrid integration and we’d like to get the ball rolling with responsibilities starting in the summer.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with team leads and suppliers to identify potential connections and sponsors
  • Secure donations and in-kind sponsorships
  • Contribute to team operations reports
  • Update sponsors on team progress and milestones
  • Research and organize applications for grants and funding available to the team
  • Collaborate with the logistics team including finance and marketing to ensure budgets are met and update the team’s branding
  • Attend team meetings or check-ins

  • Develop a network of sponsors where you’re one of the primary contacts
  • Gain professional skills related to marketing, communications, and branding

Marketing (1-2 positions)

Marketing leads will advertise team activities while growing QRETs network and designing engaging promotional materials. Responsible for identifying areas of growth, strategies for engagement, and refining the team’s branding.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the team’s social media accounts and website
  • Collaborate with team leads to record team milestones throughout the year
  • Develop social media content to increase engagement and interest in the team
  • Help design or organize merchandise for the team including mission patches
  • Coordinate with sponsorship team to create team branding materials
  • Work with outreach to run events and advertisements to engage Queen’s students
  • Propose new strategies to advertise QRET to sponsors, alumni, and the public

  • Understand effective marketing and engagement strategies
  • Make connections within the Queen’s community and beyond

Outreach (1 position)

QRET is hiring an outreach position for 2025-2026. The outreach will advertise QRET while promoting STEM engagement in the community. This role is intended to work closely with the executive team to identify areas of growth, strategies for engagement, and expand the team’s community involvement and visibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize outreach events with schools and community groups
  • Work with the marketing team to engage the Queen’s community in team initiatives
  • Propose and present STEM content to increase interest in the team and its activities
  • Identify new opportunities to participate in community events that promotes the team
