The Queen's Vertical Farming Team, founded in 2019, is Canada's first undergraduate engineering team of its kind. Recognizing this rapidly emerging industry, QVFT is designing and building a functional, software-automated aeroponic vertical farm on Queen's University campus. The majority of existing research in this field is conducted privately and is thus inaccessible to the public. Through its open-source approach, QVFT aims to democratize vertical farming knowledge and research.

The Plant Science Team within QVFT focuses on researching what plants need to thrive within the vertical farm. This position involves researching plants' nutrient needs, lighting requirements, and determining the best fertilizer mix for each given plant. Plant Science team members would also be responsible for testing research findings and using statistical tests and computational tools to analyze data.
